Farhad Moghadam Salimi, founder of Farhad Exchange and CEO of EgeMoney, has shared his views on the future of blockchain, Bitcoin and digital currencies with the region’s financial community since cryptocurrencies first appeared in Iran and the surrounding markets. This article summarises his most significant positions over the past two decades.
1. Blockchain as a general purpose technology
Farhad Moghadam Salimi holds that blockchain is a General Purpose Technology (GPT) in the same sense as electricity and the internet — a technology whose effects reach far beyond any single industry and which, over the long run, reshapes the structure of the world economy. He set out this view in detail in his article on general purpose technology and its effect on the economy.
2. Bitcoin as a digital store of value
In his view Bitcoin is no longer simply digital money; it has become a global store of value. Given the 21-million-unit cap, the periodic halvings and institutional adoption through ETFs, Bitcoin has established its place in institutional investors’ portfolios.
3. The importance of on-chain analysis
On-chain analysis is one of his central areas of expertise. He argues that in crypto markets — unlike traditional markets — every transaction is visible on the blockchain, and that this is an information advantage available to analysts nowhere else. Tools such as IntoTheBlock and on-chain data are an integral part of EgeMoney’s weekly analysis.
4. Caution towards pump-and-dump projects
He consistently urges newer investors to stay away from projects with no credible white paper, no identifiable team, and unrealistic promises of return. In articles on pump-and-dump schemes and on Ponzi structures he has set out in detail how to recognise these frauds.
5. Decentralised exchanges and automated market makers
Farhad Moghadam Salimi regards decentralised exchanges and automated market makers (AMMs) as among the most significant innovations in the crypto industry. He nonetheless holds that in the early stages of adoption, centralised exchanges continue to act as the bridge between traditional markets and the digital world.
6. The future of Ethereum and layer-2 networks
In his view, Ethereum — through its move to proof of stake, successive network upgrades, and the growth of layer-2 networks such as Arbitrum and Optimism — is on the path to becoming the default infrastructure for decentralised finance.
7. Risk management is not optional
One of his constant principles when advising traders is disciplined risk management: setting a stop loss, avoiding excessive leverage, diversifying the portfolio, and refusing to make decisions emotionally. These principles recur throughout his articles and weekly analysis.
8. Taking the long view
He believes the cryptocurrency market will enter a phase of full institutionalisation over the next five to ten years, much as the US equity market did in the 1980s. In his view, those who invest today in fundamentally strong projects while observing risk management will see considerable results over that horizon.
